Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Because wisdom teeth are often the last to develop, there might not be enough space in the jaw to accommodate them. Extraction can be avoided if the following conditions are met:

  • Your wisdom teeth have erupted in the right position, without compromising your adjacent teeth
  • They have another tooth to bite against
  • There is nothing preventing you from maintaining proper oral hygiene

However, if even one of these conditions isn’t met, it’s best to be proactive rather than reactive, performing the extraction before your oral health is hindered. Wisdom teeth are removed using controlled forces applied to the teeth, elevating them out of the structures that hold them. Depending on your comfort level, there are three options for the procedure:

Local Anesthesia

  • You’re fully awake and aware of everything that’s happening to you. While you feel pressure, there is no pain during the operation.

Local Anesthesia & Oral Sedation

  • In addition to a lack of pain, we provide you with an anti-anxiety pill that relaxes you and causes significant drowsiness.

Local Anesthesia & IV Sedation

  • We administer the medications intravenously and you enter into a deeper sedated state. This procedure is performed by a certified dentist or dental specialist.

After the Procedure

Once the treatment is completed, we’ll explain what the healing process will entail, giving you detailed instructions on how to ensure a speedy recovery; for instance, you must adhere to a soft diet for 24 hours post-op, after which you can eat whatever meals you can tolerate. We’ll also prescribe medication and demonstrate how to properly ice the operated area in order to minimize swelling and make your recovery as smooth as possible.
